The Florida Watermelon Association Crowns its 2022 Queen

In October, the Florida Watermelon Association held its 53rd Annual Convention at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida. Seven beautiful young ladies participated in the three-day competition, which included interview, videotaping, speeches, sportswear, in-prompt questions, and evening gown portions.

Congratulations to Amber Boykin, pictured left, for being crowned the 2022 Florida Watermelon Queen!

Amber earned the 2022 FWA Queen title Friday, October 22 in front of FWA board members, convention attendees, and former queens. We would also like to congratulate first runner up Kiersten Waldron, second runner up Alyssa Armentrout, and Jubilee Award winner Kendall Prescott. Queen Amber will start her reign in March 2022.

Our 2021 Florida Watermelon Queen, Bethany, and I were selected to ride in the University of Florida Homecoming Gator Parade. This was a morning of fun with over 250 entries in the parade!

Over the next few months, Queen Bethany will be promoting our Florida Fall Watermelons at the following locations.

· Texas Watermelon Convention – November 11 – 14 – McAllen, Texas

· 20th Annual Suwannee Cares Dinner – November 18 – Live Oak, Florida

· Fresh from Florida Taste of Agriculture – November 30 – Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida

· Suwannee Valley Watermelon Institute – December 2 – Gainesville, Florida

· 16th Annual Florida Seed Association Skeet Shoot – December 10 – Nokomis, Florida

· 4-H Farm Bureau Event – December 17 – Wauchula, Florida

Thank you to those sponsoring these events.

Watermelon season is right around the corner. Remember to pick up a “Fresh from Florida” watermelon at your local grocery store!
